From 1907-1909, Harvard Arboretum plant collector Ernest Henry Wilson travelled through Asia collecting plant materials on behalf of the Harvard Arboretum. Wilson collected seeds from a local witch hazel plant (Hamamelis mollis) and shipped them back to Boston. Witch hazel has long been used in traditional medicine to alleviate inflammation.
